The Lake Merritt Mobility Hub will create a sense of cohesiveness at this underutilized plaza, in order to welcome and connect a diversity of travelers to a variety of active transit options (walking, biking, micromobility, public transit) available at this anchor site. Located in the heart of Oakland’s Chinatown next to Laney College, The Oakland Museum of California, Jack London Square, and Lake Merritt, we propose enhancing this hub with transit information, solar, vegetation, seating and public art. Mobility Hubs have the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by highlighting low carbon transit options and encouraging alternatives to private vehicles.
